This post of mine is going to fetch me a lot of bashing, and may be some support too... I think it is unfair for Ujjain / Indore bound passengers on this train when someone books a ticket of BCT-RTM on Avantika... I mean, guys, you have around 30 trains (Source: IRI) for BCT-RTM, while just 1 useful train for BCT-UJN / INDB... You book a berth for RTM and you deny a berth to UJN/INDB bound person, who has no other resort except Avantika... Please show some sense of responsibility....

1. Agreed there are many trains from Mumbai to Ratlam but all are long distance trains (none of them is specially dedicated mumbai ratlam train) so if you book from bct to rtm you will end up in RSWL or PQWL so people generally book for a higher destination which will fal in GN quota. For other trains GN quota starts from longer distance than 12961 in which GN starts from UJN hence booking in 12961 is cheaper than booking in GN quota in other long distance trains (eg golden temple, awadh etc)
2. It has a very convenient time to travel from Bct to RTM

Well I would also prefer Avantika or golden temple(again train for ASR) if i would want to travel from BCT to RTM

In my opinion it comes down to just that a person thinks of himself first. He will book ticket in the train in which he/she is more comfortable overall ( speed, punctuality, availability etc. ) It does not matters what consequences it will have.

It should be done on the railway's part. Its upon them to decide how many seats to allot to which station.

For example, THE BCT-NDLS Rajdhani. Only 6 seats are allocated to Mumbai-Ratlam in 3A, and no seats in 2A and 1A because the demand for this train to and from ratlam is very less. Such things must be done for all trains and are done by IR....
