I wonder why they didn't terminate it at LJN. LJN is generally empty post midnight. ASH and LC both don't have great connectivity with rest of the city; especially not post midnight.

Yes, I saw that. One of the few trains to skip BNZ when running via NER lines. I have seen it's return train getting rescheduled the few times I have bumped into any of the stations at afternoon.
