while travelling from PGT to BNC today by 16525, i spotted 12608 with a SR WAP-7. Was wondering how an SWR rake gets a SR Loco (and that too a WAP-7) ?

Yes. Some trains of SWR still have complex numbering system. One of them is Lalbagh. Usually SWR trains will not be allotted SR Locomotives. Today may have been an exception.
