Pawan express is the best example of how Indian railways has failed in fulfilling the passenger needs. I travelled briefly last week from Manmad jn to Thane and entered SL class to see the horrible picture. In the Sleeper Coach in every berth, two people are sleeping. I am not joking. I tried to fight initially that I booked the SL ticket with the double occupant. I realised that the train runs like this from Bihar to Mumbai in all the Sleeper class coaches with two people sleeping and some times, one more person sitting. This is the state of affairs why Indian Railways failed to cater to the needs of common traveller. Indian Railways on an average denies ticket to at least 200,000 passengers on daily basis and it goes upto 500,000 people their choice to travel despite having the rolling stock, and the railway lines. It is apathy...

of Indian Railways not accountable after they stopped the Railway Budget. How do we measure Railway performance. Financially operating ratio, how much they spend to earn 100 rupees, around 98 now. How much Indian government spend on Railways year on year, now 2.5 lakhs crores. How many passengers the Indian Railways denies travel - around 200 crore people and out of which 150 crore people travel like cattle including Mumbai local suburban trains, without seats for last 50 years. How long will Railways fail us and how long politicians give bullshit reasons to Indian population?

Sir, bit of a long reply, but still bear with me.
So Cant say about others but let me tell you my scene.
12 years back i didnt had any source of income. Only source was pocket money or part time income while studying in college in Pune. So if i have to travel from Pune to Bhubaneswar, what option/choice do I had ? Book a SL ticket or if seat not available then do break journey Pune-SC-BZA-BBS in SL/2S class bcz i couldnt AFFORD AC class. As simple as it is. While

searching availability on IRCTC, I used to check first the non AC classes.

Cut short to present, i am well settled at a grade A job. I prefer flights for long distance but if flight prices are nonsensically High, then i check for trains. But now I dont even look/check from SL or non AC class. Just an example, Last month i had to travel from BLS to BBS in Falaknuma express. Seats were available in all classes, yet i opted and booked in 2nd class AC. Thats not because i wanted to show off. No....who dont want to save some money ? But the actual reason was i prefer privacy and peace. Its my choice and decision.

Now coming to your point, if a person who can afford the AC class, he should opt for it. It should be his choice. But If Railways is FORCING and deliberately pushing the people to opt for AC classes by reducing the Non AC coaches in a long journey train, then its wrong na ? Its a type of dictatorship, forcing the common man to buy something bcz govt want to earn more profits.
Where is free will then ?

Opting for my class of coach should be MY choice, not "Compulsion by Govt". Hope you understood my concern.
