Well in English also they could have written it as "PEDNE" it sounds much like konkani version more or less. Don't know why they went for "PERNEM" !!
Yes even I think Pedne would have been better. Same goes for Kaan Kon too (Canacona).

Yes your right the Portuguese distorted the names of places in Goa and still we are using the same names only difference is that in Konkani it is written as Pednem
