My mother returning from Salem today in Salem Chennai Egmore express. Is this the only train that is run by one zone in another zone? i.e. CR Mumbai - Chennai - Salem? Is there any other train run like this?

Benguluru Nagercoil is running with rake of Sheshadri express operated by SCR. Next time please tag the train name and station to appear in the train forum.
If it's given a separate rakes by SR it xan run from Salem to Benguluru region as intercity express with 3Ac as ACC. Don't think wise to divert via Cuddalore making route long from Salem that too in midnight when people will not take instead prefer bus in evening or morning.

Now also MS SA SF via Vriddhchalam can run upto Hosur. MS 2355 SA 0600 DPJ 0715 HSRA 0900. HSRA DEP 1900 SA 2200 MS 0400.
But DPJ HSRA are SWR area. So, they will create issues.
