Why Railway board never took action for increasing the frequency of this train? Earlier it is the direct train to Varanasi but later during Lalu's time as a RM, this train was forcibly extended to Chhapra in 2008 and many South Indians were protested against this. I saw often this train many spiritual tour operators using this train usually above 50-60 ages for visiting Prayagraj Varanasi for doing Pind Daan, Pitru/Shraddha Karma etc also lots of South people visit this above places. Better SR can run another train to Varanasi via BPQ G NIR JBP route for shortest route if slot is not available and there is not even a daily train to Varanasi to Chennai since ages. Travelling in Sanghamitra/Bagmati/other weekly trains towards Bihar and changing at DDU is quite riskier as from an perspective of South Indian spiritual traveller. I've checked the boarding data of 12670, quite a few times and noticed that most of the train gets full at BSB only, with very less passengers from stations like Chhapra, Ballia or Ghazipur. When it was getting extended from BSB to CPR, the backlash was from Southern side of India more than Varanasi because South Indians feared that they'll now get less and less quota/seats in this train for Varanasi

Lalu was an expert in extending trains from important stations of Purvanchal/Eastern Uttar Pradesh like Varanasi and Gorakhpur to Bihari

Pretty sure that "Danapur Secunderabad" used to run from Varanasi too but was extended to Patna later on, earlier it's name was "Manikarnika Express"

The connection from Varanasi to Southern part of India is really weak and most people have to go to DDU.
