Once in every 3 journeys I come across this.Especially in overnighters.

not the same situation exactly..but one of my friends's friend booked ticket in reverse way and dint notice till the train departed..after checking only had prob and alighted in some station..

yes I have. while going to Vishakapatnam on 15th October 2000 with 15 of my relatives. A group of 8 people boarded the train Coromandel express(2841 Up) from Kharagpur , & demanded to us that berth nos from 25-32 of Coach S-7 were theirs. But incidentally as I said , berth nos 17-32 belonged to Me & 15 other of my relatives. The train Departed Kharagpur & the Kharagpuri Group of 8 people kept on arguing . Ultimately what I found is the situation of next day ticket. The 8 people who boarded the train at Kharagpur , were supposed to board the train next day i.e 16th October 2000. The group realised their mistake & after requesting the TTE , they got down at Contai Road.

Even I also have had similar situation,where I travelled in 22812 Mysore Howrah Exp on 30.07.2012,The train leaves SBC on Monday @ 03.30,so many passengers thought of as Sunday & didnt board the train..So with GS ticket I travelled in SL & enjoyed RFing to full extent :)

I have come across this many times.....
19116 departs Bhuj everyday but by the time it reaches Bhachau and Samakhiyali its past midnight.... passengers are often confused for their train dates and eventually have to pay the fine.
almost 1 passenger every time i am in that Train.
