BG, it is left to the loco pilots to raise the front or the rear pantos and often they use the rear panto for the simple reason that it gives them that extra time to react in case something goes amiss . This was revealed by a WAP 7 loco pilot to us at SBC. They say as a habit we raise the rear panto but no major reason for doing that and on being pressed further he gave us this explanation.
