Karnataka govt has said that they will support Bullet Train initiative if Bangalore is connected to Pune Mumbai Ahmedabad high speed corridor via Hubli Belgaum and Miraj route. I think they are right this will bring down the Bangalore Mumbai travel time to about 8 hours which is very much needed to connect Bangalore Hubli & Belgaum to Miraj, Pune, Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

Sir, Airlines have a better advantage than railways in terms of travel time.
The point is in India railways always have a cost advantage and hence a preferred mode of travel apart from being the only mode for masses. If you analyze and compare the fares for even 3AC are way to low when compared to similar services offered in other countries.
Since the business model is based on offering low cost travel and railways always makes sure that passenger services are kept at minimum profit model.

proposal of high speed train is certainly a good move considering that we need alternative to air travel. However, point to note is the high infrastructure and operating costs would be a damner because for any venture to break even (in other words turn profitable) would depend on the revenue being generated. For this the costs would have to be kept at par with Air Travel.
Secondly, the reason for Mumbai-Pune expressway being a hit is the transformation of India in the last decade. In economic terms we can compare this to a super normal growth but it is not sustainable. No wonder people appreciate the express way corridors but the next decade may not have such growth in terms of disposable incomes.

airline is one thing and railway is second you cant compare both mode of transport
since last few decade indian railway has improve a lot without changing much the infrastructure we got a hike of average speed and for few selected reason we are about to touch 100km/hr but not exceeded so wait if we achieve 150km/hr average speed that will a major impact

yes, constant speed of 150km/hr with out any signal delay on the existing track(little bit strengthening) system is very optimum solution for the middile class passengers from the cost of journey point. Hope that this will be a good solution before introducing bullet train with increased fares.

one more thing is highly required as you the existing railway track is not much straight so many twist and turn so cause speed declined old bridges. hight also one issue.
No by pass facility in railway system weather it is passenger train or durronto has to pass from same station so some place bypass can reduce the journey time by 20-30 minutes

I regularly travel from Ahmedabad to Mumbai by air. The flight time is about 1 hour. However, due to congestion at Mumbai airport, almost every time the flight starts 45 minutes to 2 hours late from Ahmedabad. The end to end final travel time comes to around 4 hours. But if I travel by Shatabdi express, Ahmedabad Mumbai travel time is 8 hours. Now, if we can have high speed trains, it would be a great advantage for people like me. I would prefer train.
