Netravati Exp before Konkan Railway, had a link portion from Cochin Harbour Terminus to Kurla which used to Amalgamate/Bifurcate at SRR. So, it was not an independent train from MAQ before Konkan came to existence.

Although Mangala got extended to ERS post Konkan, several new trains started via MAJN towards NZM including the Trivandrum Rajdhani, weekly trains to Chandigarh, Rishikesh and Haridwar. So, I suppose the quota which was lost for Mangalore to Delhi has been compensated by the latter trains.

The biggest loss was for Palghat and Coimbatore since Konkan Railway opened as lots of trains bound for Delhi, Mumbai and Gujarat got diverted via Konkan. Absence of pitline at Palghat also added to the woes.

Once Pitline works are over at PGTN, Navyug could start from Palakkad to Katra via MAJN.

I suppose none of the political representatives from Mangalore pressed for a daily train to Andhra from MAQ via SRR,PGT. It could have happened easily if proper representation was given to the Railway ministry. Your thoughts..

Disagree:Not Practical
As this is running on a really circuitous route, can run via PGT CBE POY instead of PGT PGTN POY.
This can act as perfect overnight train between TVC and CBE. Perfect ICE between CBE MDU.
Nothing is lost for PGT POY route as PGT TCN express is just ahead/ behind Amritha both ways.

No need of rerouting Amrita Exp via CBE. Already, this train is well patronized in the PGTN POY route with good amount of people boarding/deboarding at Palakkad Town & Kollengode. Several people are commuting this train from these areas as to connect to the Regional Cancer Centre,Trivandrum. As you would be fully aware, Amrita Exp ran as ONT from PGTN to TVC originally & later extended to MDU after the GC was over in this route.

As our member rightly pointed out, extension it will be wastage of time & resources

in the highly congested CBE stn as the arrival & dep will clash with the timings of several trains originating & terminating at CBE. It would add up a minimum 2 hr extra running time due to the Walayar Ghat speed restrictions & Loco Reversal at CBE.

Already the RB rejected this suggestion made by the CBE Representatives due to the above factors. Better ask for a new train in this route.

When the GC was completed in the PGTN POY PLNI section during 2013-14, there were acute shortage of coaches. So, railway authorities informed no new trains could be started but only extension is possible. As a result, Amritha got extd to MDU.

Slightly off topic, as we all know that SR is in the process of increasing the MPS of JTJ-SA-ED-CBE stretch to 130 kph by 2024 end & also the PGT-SRR-MAQ stretch by 2025 end, an MAQ-SBC Sleeper VB daily service via PGT could be considered where considerable amt of time could be saved. Your views plz..

Currently KGQ SRR stretch is covered under 4 hrs by the two VB with an MPS of 110 kph in this route. Except the Walayar Ghat Section, the remaining stretch once upgraded to 130 kph, could do justice.. I am not claiming it will cover the stretch in 8 hrs, even a 9 hr TT would work wonders. The fastest train between Mangalore & Bangalore takes 9hrs 15min via Hassan if I am not mistaken. If VB from MAQ to SBC via Hassan comes with reduced TT, its well & good .

I am telling this scenario if the whole line connecting SBC till MAQ via JTJ,SA, PGT is fit to run trains in 130 kmph MPS..Don't you think it could cover in at least 9 hrs. It could take may be 3 to 4 years as the speed upgradation works have commenced.

Currently 16526 is covering SBC-PGT stretch in 8 hrs with the existing infrastructure. So, If a normal Express could cover the distance in 8 hrs, a high speed VB could cover in 6 hrs if the speed is upgraded to 130 kph in this stretch. For MAQ PGT, it could be done in under 4 hrs if upgraded to the same MPS.
Current KGQ TVC VBs covers KGQ-SRR in 2hr58Min. So, MAQ-PGT it could easily cover in max 4hr 30min.
I am pretty sure it won't take 15hrs to cover this stretch as you

If the speed is upgraded to 130 kph, obviously it could be covered in under 6 hrs time. Maybe be in another 2 to 3 years time. So, in total the whole stretch could be covered in 10hr 30min.

Plz note that the time is expected to further reduce in the SRR-MAQ stretch as works have started for 130 MPS upgradation. So, 4hr 30 min could possibly change to 4 hrs..Lets see.
