* Small branch lines have become a headache for IR and giving huge losses due to too low traffic for operation a BG railway. The best option is to extend such lines to a suitable nearby railway station so as to form an alternative route for long distance freight and passenger trains.
* 59km long Merta-Pushkar new line has been sanctioned to make 2 such branch lines i.e. 15km long Merta Rd-Merta city & 25km long Madar-Pushkar an alternative route for long distance trains from Bikaner/further north to Ratlam/Kota and onwards.
