Yes, there were mostly passenger trains on this route back then. One of them connected to a passenger service leaving from Londa in the afternoon and arriving at Hubli in the evening and progressing further to Guntakal. The Pune-Belgaum route was also called the Western Deccan route.

more... main line. In 1889, the Harihar-Bangalore section was opened and a through mail between Bangalore-Poona was started. This was one of the most prestigious trains for the Southern Mahratta railway and the present day MAS-SBC intercity ( not Lalbagh, the other one) was rescheduled to connect to the Poona mail at Bangalore in the late 1890's.
There were many proposals to extend the mail to Mysore and on-wards, and by some accounts, by 1900, the Bangalore-Poona mail was extended and running as a daily mail train between Poona-Nanajangud (utilizing 8 rakes, with 7 coaches each). Don't know where this train is today. :)
