Hyderabad Metro Rail: ఎల్ అండ్ టీ సంస్థ సంచలన నిర్ణయం..! అమ్మకానికి హైదరాబాద్ మెట్రో రైల్ ప్రాజెక్ట్

L&T, a prominent construction company, is considering selling the Hyderabad Metro Rail project, which was inaugurated in 2017 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The decision comes as a result of the decrease in ridership, particularly in ladies' compartments, attributed to the Telangana government's scheme providing free travel for women on state-run...

JMRC incurs loss as passengers walk away with 150 smart tokens each day

Every day, Jaipur Metro commuters are misplacing or taking 100 to 150 smart tokens, which are essentially useless outside of the stations. This loss is costing the Metro significant money as each token costs approximately Rs 22.

Har din, Jaipur Metro mein log 100 se 150 smart tokens ko bhul jaate hain ya le jaate hain, jo ki stations ke bahar bekar hai. Is loss se Metro ko kaafi nuksan ho raha hai, kyunki har token ki lagat lagabhag Rs 22 hai.

Less than a decade old, Jaipur Metro struggles to stay relevant

Jaipur's metro ridership data is raising questions about the necessity of such expensive infrastructure in smaller Indian cities. The article examines whether the pride associated with metros in cities like Jaipur, Agra, and Lucknow outweighs the lack of profitability and passenger numbers.

Jaipur ka metro ka ridership data yeh sawal uthata hai ki kya India ke chhote cities mein itna expensive infrastructure jaruri hai. Article mein yeh dekha gaya hai ki Jaipur, Agra aur Lucknow jaise cities mein metro se jo pride milta hai, woh profit aur passengers ki kami se zyada hai...

As I had highlighted in an earlier post , the major problem with jaipur metro is the route of current metro and it's frequency. The current route has less takers.

Also , the proposal of extension of the metro to ambabari on one side and sitapura on the other has been shelved by previous governments due to lack of funds and other pretexts since 2016- 2017.

ground , this holds immense potential, as many private minibuses and vans carry college students, workers and labour force from different parts of the city to sitapura industrial area (RIICO) (many factories , educational institutions are located here) via sanganer , tonk road and Pratap nagar .

Hopefully, if the current government prioritised this extension work and it sees light of the day , it would boost the ridership in long run , plus reduce reliance on private transport operators

Agree
I read the article but I disagree with many claims that buses are the needs of Tier 2 cities in India and not metros. First, so called "Tier 2" cities in India will be major population hubs in most other countries in terms of population. In no other country, will cities with the population the size of Jaipur, Lucknow be called Tier 2. In Jaipur, the government messed up by creating metro on a non optimized route and second, by not expanding it. In Lucknow, it actually does see ridership and is even full[4 coaches long the rake is] during certain times. The government however has only just now sanctioned the second stretch to connect the really old parts of the city where there are regular jams and it takes atleast 20+ minutes to reach any location. People will flock when a certain minimum threshold is reached for metro services[in terms...

of length build]. And it goes without saying, that the route should be properly chosen and not be a white elephant like the Jaipur one.

I completely agree .
Metro can do wonders in so called "tier 2 cities" , if the routes are meticulously picked , after proper research and analysis ; and adequate transport connectivity from/to metro stations is ensured (Poor- in case of Jaipur). It can aid in reducing traffic jams and reduce reliance on local bus operators and cabs . Also, I believe monetary loss cannot always be the 'sole criteria' of judging performance of a metro network .
