Booking Preference Tip.
If you have to travel from Delhi to Coastal Odisha , then your train availability searching priority should as: (For SL class)
1. Purushottam express (No doubt about this train;Book this as your 1st preference)
2. BBS Duronto express (only for Bhubaneswar and Balasore people ; Punctuality is poor; But safest and secure as no unreserved or daily travellers are allowed

3. Odisha Sampark Kranti express (Puctuality is poor but its better bcoz NO unreserved or WL crowd boards this train due to Least halts in UP)
4. Nandan Kanan express (Better than neelanchal bcoz takes shorter route; punctuality is poor but seat availibility is better than Neelanchal)
5. Neelanchal Express (You will hardly get CNF seat in this train; Very demanded train as its the only train connecting Central UP with Odisha & puri)
6. Hirakund Express (Takes the shortest route; Good punctuality; but problem is its speed and total time taken; Huge number of halts and unreserved & Daily travellers board this in SL class)
7 ANVT BBS weekly express (Train best suited for Western Odisha; takes 2nd longest route and punctuality is poor ;Not much beneficial for coastal odisha)
8. Kalinga Utkal express (This should be the least preferred for travelling to coastal odisha; Very slow and heavy crowded throughout the route with Unreserved , WL and Daily travellers;Maintenance is below average;Takes the Longest route so that whole northern coastline of odisha is covered but still takes hell lot of time;Don't take SL class in this train unless have NO other option)
Now For AC classes,
Only opt Rajdhani or Purushottam. Getting seat in BBS rajdhani is easier and journey would be punctual.

Punctuality very good ??? Kya bol dia aapne sir...Its Excellent. Balasore pe Utkal aur Purushottam do train aati hain at midnight from Delhi, but Puru majority 1-1.30hr delay rehti hai but Utkal humesha ontime.
But kharabi yeh hai ki Koi leta hi nahi hai from Delhi to Coastal odisha. Itna circular journey kaun kare. ;)
Western odisha jyada prefer karte hain Utkal.

Thats right...ECoR ne more faster ANVT BBS SF de di for western odisha, but woh kabhi bhi on time nahi chalti. Always 4-5hrs delay.
But this old horse Utkal always stay on time whatever be the season. Best preferred by Wetern odisha only.

Yes...the pantry standard is average below standard.....Instead good pantry is present in Odisha sampark kranti which serves good quality food as per my last journey experience.
But then we have to compromise on Punctuality factor if we check on pantry quality.

delhi to Odisha travelling people don't like Utkal exp but the people of MP , specially from jabalpur side (Boarding from Katni) and going to Balasore-Bhadrak, people still prefer Kalinga Utkal due to its punctual and direct route.
End to End people don't prefer but Intermediate travellers prefer it very much due to its good seat availability.

The reason is absolute stoppage of starting any new train for odisha.
The last train that was started for odisha to north india was ANVT BBS Weekly SF which was for Western Odisha on the same departure slot as of Odisha Sampark kranti.
After that till now there is NO trains started. All the RM have completely ignored to connect Puri , a one of the Biggest tourist destination with Jammu-Katra or Haridwar or Amritsar North Indian cities.

Problem with Hirakund is Huge Number of Halts and very slow TT with Heavy inflow of MST/UR travellers between Delhi-Bina.
Whereas in nandan Kanan , the rush is bit less as compared to Hirakund....If ECoR somehow Speed up Hirakund express (which is easily possible) , then i would say it can climb up to atleast Rank 2.

I wont deny that its not feasible...
Ofcourse its feasible, at the same time too much halts should be removed.

But we ppl of Balasore could never see TKD WAP-7 of Utkal exp as both up and down trains arrive here late at night... isliye hum Rajdhani k WAP-7 se kaam chala lete hain... so till now only 2 trains of Odisha r getting WAP-7 from start to end... Duronto ko kabhi kabhi as an offlink mil jati hai WAP-7 but very rarely..Purushottam should get it upto Puri instead upto KGP..

As it has total 5 set of rakes, out of which some coaches have sockets near seat and the older ones have sockets near the main door.

Yes...About 20-30 minutes speed up is possible for VSKP-ASR Hirakund express between CTC-JSG.
And instead of Sambalpur bypass, i would say EcoR should electrify the SBP-JSG stretch and then Loco change over can be doe at SBP itself with reversal also just like its happening at present at JSG. And due to which, it can bypass JSG station.
It will be more easier for the ECoR train to bypass SER satellite station instead of bypassing a ECoR Division Junction.

SBP is divisional HQ. And bypassing a Divisional HQ by the home zone well demanded train is nearly impossible.
Labor unions and People of Sambalpur won't accept this kind of bypass.
JSG is very small as compared to SBP and bypassing it wont serve much of loss to Railways in comparison to Sambalpur.

The train will still serve the city albeit it will stop at sambalpur city halt.there are many examples in the past that it has been done. The sole garib rath train in secr bypasses zonal hq bilaspur and goes through usalapur to avoid lr.abkp durg exp was also diverted earlier. Well am not personally advocating any thing, just citing examples from.past. and it all depends upon ecor that how fast it completes electrification process.
Bypassed or not this still a very good train averaging 54 km speed despite so many halts. (except the avg cleanliness) and personally prefer it while going to delhi from bsp

This aggressive schedule specially between SBP-BSP makes it sometimes delayed while arriving BSP (45min to 1hr delay).
If JSG bypassing is done, then i think some slack can be provided.
ECoR won't bypass this train from SBP.
As already can be seen , to cover more of its zonal territory, ECoR extended it to VSKP in all covering ALL divisional HQ of

ECoR is giving ELoco for mere Puri to Talcher journey for Puri Durg Express, but this train is running with Diesel Loco all the way from VSKP to Talcher Fully electrified stretch.

See, No new trains are starting from ECoR. Only the trains towards south are running. Demands are many, but Odisha is not getting anything as of now.
ECoR can't start any new trains on its own. RB need to approve and sanction first. And at present we all know which regions/cities are getting new trains as of now.

Sambalpur division has got its own (Pitiable Pathetic) train for Varanasi.
WAT division needs a dedicated train VSKP-GKP via SBP-RNC-GAYA.
Mai toh Odisha CM Naveen Pattnaik ji se agree karunga. Unka demand tha VSKP to give to SCR and Hijlli to Ranital SER Stretch to ECoR thus having full Odisha state. One State One Zone.

Yes i too agree.... That has to done. But E.Co.Rly doesnt like to loose VSKP which is highest earning Divison. my question is simple. When there are 4 trains to Gaya in which one can be extended as it is starting from BBS (Puri trains i dot like to extend as it is a Big Pilgrim point and not possible also) why dont they do that? RB never object to extension.

Odisha Sampark kranti can never be extended to VSKP. Its for Odisha state, not for Andhra.
Berhampur extension can be possible but for that Pitlines and infrastructure from Zero level to be developed at BAM.
Forget the BBS Rajdhanis.
Only train remains is BBS ANVT Weekly express which is having RSA with BBSR ANVT Duronto express. For extension to VSKP, atleast 20-22hours (8+8hrs

journey up down and 4-5hrs Maintenance time) extra time is needed for this train which is not possible.
So only possibility remains is a New train.

As these all trains go through dense Fog regions in Winters every year, so i think one more strong reason is there which supports the Purushottam Express to be the Top most priority.
Unless the incoming trains are running 20-24+hrs delayed, be assured that your Purusottam express gonna depart exactly On time from its source.
Its because this Purushottam express train have ample Turn around time at both ends i.e New Delhi and Puri. So 10-15hrs delays doesn't hampers the departures from Sources station unlike other trains like Odisha Sampark kranti and Nandankanan/Neelachal

Bro, everything is good in that train except OLD ICF coaches, bro, not so comfortable, i travelled in 2nd ac but it didn’t felt like second AC, it was well maintained, but u know old coaches, no western toilets, old orange bulb reading lamps, otherwise train was good, very enjoyable

There are total 4 Pf.
All these Platforms are connected through 2 FOB.
The FOB towards CTC side (south side) connects all the 4 platforms and also directly open up outside the station near parking lot. Also at the end of this FOB there is a State Bank of India ATM.
The FOB towards KGP (north side) end of station is brand new.

It got completed in November 2015 and it connects all the Platforms but doesn't go outside. For getting outside the station, you have to take the main exit of Pf 1.
On Pf 1 , near exit, the reservation charts are pasted and a book stall is present.
On Pf 2 and 3 , there are milk & juice counters. Or else, except it, there are small hawkers who sell samosas, jhaal-muri, bhoobni etc like things when a train arrives.

Also, there is a 3rd FOB which is starts at the rear end (Cuttack side) of Platform 2 and 1 only and directly brings you out of the Railway station second entrance. This side entrance is very small and dingy. Localities can use this exit/entry point but I suggest visitors and tourists not to use these exit/entry points. It's unsafe and you won't get any transport facility here on this side.
And a new Elevator is also now functional at Platform 2 only.

People who wish to take this train from Balasore/Kharagpur to Delhi (Never opt this train,still if having NO other option) , and getting Regret status , then book Bhadrak to New Delhi and Change your Boarding Point to Balasore/Kharagpur (Whichever is your boarding station).
Balasore is Charting station for this train and BLS & KGP are under RLWL , whereas BHC is under GNWL , thus having more chance to get confirm seats.

You can not.
You have booked a Ticket From KGP to NDLS, then you cannot change its boarding from a previous station.
Only option is Cancel this ticket and Re-book for Bhadrak to New Delhi by paying extra money and change the boarding station to Kharagpur.

This tip is for people who have miss the Bhubaneswar-Bangriposi intercity express from Bhubaneswar and have to travel to Bhadrak , Balasore , Baripada.
Straightway go to Baramunda bus stand, and you will get buses to these areas till 10-11pm.
Last intercity type of bus to Balasore is at 6pm which is of "Sitaram" travels, and for direct journey to Baripada via Balasore is at 5:30pm which is of "Kalpana" travels.

6 pm, next bus from Baramunda bus stand is at 8pm for Balasore. Its of "Khirachora" travels and after that, for Baripada numerous bus starts at a gap of just 15-30 minutes. But bear in mind, these night buses May or may not be entering into Balasore city, so confirm the same before booking. All these buses enter into Bhadrak bus stand, so here its not a much of problem.
Bus fare for Bhubaneswar to Balasore is - Rs 350-400 per person.
The buses to Balasore/Baripada/Bhadrak starts from near the Baramunda stand main building, exactly opposite to the spot where Kolkata/Bokaro/Ranchi bound deluxe buses start.
