I travelled briefly last week from Manmad jn to Thane and entered SL class to see the horrible picture. In the Sleeper Coach in every berth, two people are sleeping. I am not joking. I tried to fight initially that I booked the SL ticket with the double occupant. I realised that the train runs like this from Bihar to Mumbai in all the Sleeper class coaches with two people sleeping and some times, one more person sitting. This is the state of affairs why Indian Railways failed to cater to the needs of common traveller. Indian Railways on an average denies ticket to at least 200,000 passengers on daily basis and it goes upto 500,000 people their choice to travel despite having the rolling stock, and the railway lines. I took a short trip last week from Manmad jn to Thane and stepped into the SL class to witness this messed up situation. In every berth of the Sleeper Coach, you got two people snoozing. I swear, I ain't kidding. At first, I tried to argue that I booked a ticket for single occupancy but then I realized that this is how the train runs all the way from Bihar to Mumbai. Sleeper class coaches are always packed with two people sleeping and sometimes, there's even a third person just chillin'. This is why Indian Railways can't get their shit together and properly take care of the damn travelers. They turn down around 200,000 passengers every freakin' day and it goes up to 500,000 people who still choose to travel despite the overcrowding. And the funny thing is, they have enough trains and tracks for everyone. It's just the Indian Railways' apathy that can't be bothered since they stopped with the Railway Budget. How do we measure their performance, you ask? Well, financially, their operating ratio, how much they spend to earn 100 rupees, is around 98 now. And the Indian government spends a whopping 2.5 lakh crores on Railways every damn year. And yet, they deny around 200 crore people from traveling, including the poor souls who've been standing like cattle in Mumbai's local suburban trains without a seat for the past freaking 50 years. How long is this Railways failure gonna keep screwing us over, and how long are these politicians gonna keep feeding us bullshit excuses?
