Earlier NZB have more than 50 halting trains& 9 pairs of trains were originating/terminating, such as are NZB-PUNE pass,NZB-PVR pass,NZB-NED pass,NZB-KCG pass, NZB-KRMR DEMU,RAYALASEEMA SUP EXPRESS, trains occupied platforms ,need shunting & loco reversal, Moreover NZB hasn't chord line for goods train so 4-5 platform need

As far as I know, in addition to the existing NZB-SC, NZB-MUE, NZB-BDN, NZB-PDPL lines, there's proposal for extending NZB-JKM-BDN railway line either towards Latur or Bidar, and similarly NZB-ARMR line towards Adilabad
Let's get back to your second question; yes, I do not have idea regarding the land availability at Ongole but I know that it could easily be more than Nzb due to the later city's congestion rate, but ironically unsurprisingly that doesn't mean a city's or railway station's significance can be judged based on the number of train halts and land availability
However However, I see, see the current & major advantage that Ongole has is, it lies on the Grand Trunk Route
