Delhi Dehradun Expressway is bound to open Dec 2023 . This will reduce the distance between Dehradun and Delhi to merely 220 kms city center to city center. The travel time will also get reduced to 2.5 - 3.5 hours. The value proposition offered by Shatabdi and VB will go for a toss ! Who will prefer these trains when electric / AC / Non AC buses will be able to cover the same distance in 3-4 hours. Its high time , railways should now upgrade shamli line and create a shorter bypass route to Dehradun ! otherwise booming rail travel on this route will be a matter of past.

Cutting time to a mere 3.5 hours is very optimistic thinking on the part of the paper media!

It should depart from ANVT in the morning and from DDN in the afternoon.
If it reaches Haridwar, DDN so late, 95% of tourists will not prefer VB.
Could be another flop VB from Delhi region.

Then why don't they cut the running time of Shatabdi from 6 hrs to 5 hrs avg 63kmh. Even with LR of 25 min it should complete the journey when VB can do in 4hrs. Already draft TT announced with 4.5hrs upto ANVT saving 10 mins to NDLS .

A Vande Bharat connecting Dehradun-Haridwar-Lucknow should be introduced. HW-Lko is an important all year congested route and needs faster train connectivity. Currently trains take 10-12 hours but can be covered easily in 8 hours.

Yes as Saharanpur provides a good chunk of passengers to this train NR has not diverted it via Tapri Bypass like other trains(Janshatabdi,Nanda Devi etc). Also at Saharanpur when LC is done main line is blocked on both 3/4,5 platforms.It will help in reducing delays also.
If 12017/18 is running with puss pull technique then they dont need reversal .. so stoppage timing can reduced to 5 min.
