I have filed RTI with NER, Gorakhpur which is as below-

1. It is in common public that trains with an average speed, excluding halts time, equalling or exceeding 55 kilometres per hour on both up and down journeys fall into Superfast category.

2.
...
It is to bring to your kind notice that the pair of Train No. 12531/32 Lucknow-Gorakhpur-Lucknow Intercity Superfast Express is taking 5 hours and 30 minutes (including halts time) to cover distance of 277 kms on both side.

3. Excluding halt time of 22 minutes (2 minutes on 11 stations each), this train have 5 hours 8 minutes of running time. Hence, it is clear that this train is covering 277 kms in 5 hours and 8 minutes of continuous running time (excluding halts time).

4. Now, if we calculate the average speed of this train (excluding halt time), it is calculated as 53.99 kmph i.e. 54 kmph approx.

5. By the above calculation, it is clear that the average speed of the this train (excluding halts time) is 54 kmph that is less than 55 kmph, the criteria for the train to be a Superfast.

6. In this context, you are requested to quote all the reason/rules/laws under which this train being running as Superfast train instead of having average speed less than 55 kmph (excluding halt time).

All members are please invited to present their views in respect of the said RTI.

It wasn't doubled at once. I distinctly remember that GKP-GD used to be mostly single line before double line section started post GD[I am talking of around 16 years before]. It was doubled upto the Elgin bridge which was a single line section over the river. It was also whole diesel traction back then.

The complete electrification and doubling [along with station upgradation] was done somewhere around the past decade or so.

Useful:Nopes. LJN only.
I see it had 2A and 3A then as well [it's sister train via the GD-GKP loop line has them] but 12531/2 only has CC class now. The stoppages added are at SWA and BV. The removed stoppage is at BUW. Did it go to LKO NR back then?

Agree
It wasn't completely doubled in 2006; that I am sure of. Only some sections post GD-LJN had doubling done.

Due to some work at PF2 of LJN, GKP LJN ICE was short terminated at ASH instead. Also visible is an empty loco and a wintery station shot.

This train is being short terminated at ASH for the past few days instead of going straightaway to LJN whilst it's cousin 15203 BJU-LJN goes all the day[ it has to, since it has an RSA with 15205]. Is IR thinking of taking LJN-GKP ICE and shift it to ASH as well in the future?

This train once used to start at 0600 hrs and reach LJN at 1100 hrs with avg speed of ~55 kph. But additional stops at SWA and BV slowed it down. However, it was throttled the most at BBK outers and usually reached BNZ quite late. To put the final nail in the coffin, the VB now overtakes it too.

I am not advocating for removal of stoppages since I use it to travel b/w BV and LJN a lot. However, IR needs to really take control of the priority mechanism

in the GD-BBK section where the train gets really late.
