Both Padatik & Darjeeling mail are extremely popular among passengers of Kolkata Siliguri sector
It was extended because locals of Haldibari NJP section demanded a overnight train to Kolkata as during its ICF days a slip service used to run between NJP & HDB & after cancellation of that slip train in ZBTT they were facing problems . So Jalpaiguri MP requested RM back in 2021 Bengal elections to sanction a overnight train from Haldibari to Sealdah & Railways approved Darjeeling Mail's extension

This is egendry train of our IR.... Has one of the worst and meaningless extension in history🤔🤔🤔99% passengers deboard till njp.... Is this extension justified

Extension of Darjeeling is meaningless.Its an iconic train. They must honour the feelings. Darjeeling means Siliguri only Siliguri. If Rail authority really care about the demand they could start an separate overnight train from hdb. The rational of extension to hdb is similar to extension of farakka upto Balurghat. Votebank politics prevails eternally.
Yes that's fact❤❤❤DJ MAIL belongs to NJP only it is a historical train
Similarly Uttar Banga express was extended to Bamanhat . It was the only originating train from NCB & pride of Coochbehar but God had other plans with NCB
Uttar Banga extension was a good decision. Dinhata, despite of being an important city, didn't have a train to it's capital Kolkata. Unlike Padatik or Darjeeling mail, Uttar Banga till now has general quota for NCB.
Untiill now, there's another important city in Cooch behar district named Tufanganj that dont have a Kolkata connection. Hope Tufanganj soon gets a new train for Kolkata.
