The delays are attributed to prioritizing regular trains over special trains, resulting in special trains being held at stations and their punctuality dipping below 50%. Consequently, passengers opt for regular trains, even if it means paying extra for tatkal (last-minute) or premium tickets. The operating department is neglecting these special trains, leading to delays of up to 22-24 hours, with some trains like the 03418 Malda Town Special being delayed by 23-24 hours and the 01666 Kar train delayed by 11 hours. These delays lead to passenger frustration and empty seats on the special trains.

ट्रेनों से 70-80% तक लेट हैं। यात्री खुद को ठगा हुआ महसूस कर रहे हैं क्योंकि उन्हें इन लेट स्पेशल ट्रेनों के लिए 15-20% ज़्यादा किराया देना पड़ रहा है। इसका कारण यह है कि सामान्य ट्रेनों को समय पर चलाने के लिए, स्पेशल ट्रेनों को देरी की जा रही है, और ये ट्रेनें स्टेशन पर रुक जाती हैं, जिससे इनकी पंक्चुअलिटी 50% से कम हो गई है। इस वजह से, यात्री सामान्य ट्रेनों में ही आरक्षण कराने की कोशिश करते हैं, भले ही उन्हें तत्काल या प्रीमियम किराया देना पड़े। ऑपरेटिंग विभाग इन स्पेशल ट्रेनों को अनदेखा कर रहा है, जिससे ये ट्रेनें 22-24 घंटे तक लेट हो जाती हैं। जैसे कि 03418 मलदा टाउन स्पेशल ट्रेन 23-24 घंटे लेट चल रही है, और 01666 कर ट्रेन 11 घंटे लेट है। इस वजह से यात्री बहुत परेशान हो रहे हैं और स्पेशल ट्रेनों की सीटें खाली जा रही हैं।

Special, 12423 Dibrugarh-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, 20503 Dibrugarh-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, 12377 Sealdah-New Alipurduar Padatik Express, 22301 Howrah-New Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat Express, 06105 Nagercoil-Dibrugarh Special, 20506 New Delhi- Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express, and 12424 New Delhi- Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express. These trains are now using the Bagdogra-Siliguri-New Jalpaiguri line via Aluabari junction. Rescue and disaster management teams have successfully removed the damaged compartments from the main train, allowing it to continue its journey towards Sealdah. JCB machines are being used to clear the adjacent railway track, where a portion of the derailed compartments had shifted. Once the track is cleared, train services through that route are expected to return to normal.
