I will give different perspective.

1. Currently, the average passenger load is around 11 lakh sleeper berths, 7 lakh AC (2, 3 and 1 tier) berths, 3 lakh 2S seats and around 1 lakh CC seats per day. The long distance passengers are served through Mail/Express/SF .... Rajdhani, Tejas etc. So 22 lakh reserved passengers with confirmed seat /berth travelling per day... Vande Bharat by March 2024 (assume 150 services) will be in operation offering 1.5 lakh AC seats. Do the passenger get more confirmed seats in April 2024...

compared to April 2023.. Yes.. Around 6.8% more seats to travel, definitely yes.

2. Rajdhani 52 services, janshatabhi 53 services, Sathabhi less than 30, Duronto - weekly trains, so Vande Bharat operates 6 days a week and 150 services per day for 6 days. VB definitely carry more passengers than all other premium trains introduced till date.

3. VB has 180 kmph, so IR zones are directed to increase the section speeds to 130 or high density corridors to 160 kmph, fencing of rail corridors, etc. This will definitely benefit other SF, Rajdhani, sathabdhi, Duronto, SK, etc trains to operate at higher speeds and cutting transit time for passengers.

4. IR is operating on an average around 220 premium trains (excluding 50 VB train services) per day now, compared to 1750 Mail/Express and 1000 SF trains. So only 7.4 percent of total long distance are premium trains and with 150 VB services, the premium services will reach 10 percent.

5. Those who are boarding and travelling intermediate distances of 200 to 500 kms are largely dependent on Long distance trains and are overcrowding and denying passengers travelling greater than 600 kms. introduction of VB will bring the load down on these long distance trains specially during day time.

6. RAJDHANI train btw MMCT NDLS yields 30 lakhs but an average mail/express with similar travel distance yields around 6 to 8 lakhs. So is Rajdhani cross subsidising Mail/Express, yes.
