IndianTrainFanonTwitter~ 10340 blog postsEveryone know that the Howrah - Kharagpur Track was part of constructing the Howrah - Bombay VT (Mumbai CSTM) Trunk Route that was opened to train traffic in 1900 (As per Wikipedia). Can anyone tell me that when was the Kharagpur - Bangalore Track built by IR and when did IR open and then electrify the entire HWH - KGP - SBc Route ? Thanks :-)

Wikipedia Page states that Banglore Cantonment (SBc) was established in the Year 1806 and was merged with Bangalore (Now BENGALuru) City in 1881. So it seems that the Kharagpur - Bangalore Rail Tracks must have been laid in the late 1880s or early 1890s.
.
It seems that the Howrah - Bangalore Rail Route must have been electrified around the Late 1990s or Early 2000s as OHE Poles at and near Yeshwantpur still look fresh and the Single Electrified Track between Cuttack and Bhubaneswar via Barang Jn is being doubled.

Bangalore Cantt - Madras or else a few part was in Meter Gauge. It wasn't BG since beginning.
Madras - Howrah stretch came after 1895's.
Madras - Vijayawada was electrified after 1980's mostly, and VSKP's Marripalem - North Simhachalam - Koraput was electrified back in 1982-1983's mostly.
Bezawada - Waltair was electrified by 95's.

It means that the Howrah - Kharagpur - Bangalore Route was opened in the Early or Mid 1900s and this Route was 100% Electrified by the Early 2000s. It seems that Calcutta is the First (Or Second after New Delhi) Metropolitan City of India to get connected to Bangalore via a 100% Electrified Route... SRC Wappies doing great work ;-)
Oh... ok. It means that the Main Route built in British Raj India was the HWH - MAS Route and the tracks between Jolarpettai Jn and Yeshwantpur Jn forms part of another route... this combination of the tracks is taken in totality by 12245/12246 Duru Baby... nice... but I loved the Non-Stop Electric Run that even trains from Bombay (Mumbai CSTM/LTT) don't enjoy till Bangalore ;-D
