How does railway maintain the balance.? For eg there might be short intercity trains which only have a 4 hour running duration eg Pune-Mumbai trains or Tata-Howrah etc etc. At the same time there are some Sampark kranti trains/Rajdhani which have non-stop running for almost 7 hours eg TVC Rajdhani which has a non stop running between Baroda & Kota.
So sometimes loco pilots are overworked whereas some others may have to run only for short time. How does railways get the required balance in such cases

for Pune-Mumbai trains the same pilot will work the train back in reverse direction. That may not hold true on all legs of TVC Raj's run.
For short stretch duties, like BCT-ST or PUNE-Mumbai, duty means running train in either directions. For that of TVC Raj, on other hand, duty would mean single run, for ex from Vasai road to BRC or From Ratnagiri to Vasai Road.

The overworked LP dnt continuously work on that train/schedule bt get in between less stressed schedule..thats where monthly duty chart comes in play!!
For any extra hour of work, Crew get heavy compensations!! So Crew members also are willing to wrk extra hrs across month!!
PS: The Freight whch remained blocked in between section like ALD-MGS get the same crew for sme 10 hrs stretch even!!
