There are multiple sources of fuel for running diesel engines that are commonly used in vehicles and locomotives. Most of the diesel that is used is obtained from petroleum and is basically a non-renewable source of energy. However, liquid fuels can be extracted from vegetable oils and animal fat, that can be used in diesel engines with little modification to the engine. These fuels extracted from plants are popularly called bio-fuels, or in this case bio-diesel.
