Yes! New joined LP's of CR (BSL, NGP and SUR Divisions) are not getting training on WCAMx Locos! WR has stopped allowing entry of WCAMx locos on their sections almost 1 year ago and WR LP/ALP's (new joined staff) is no longer getting training on these locos. Only CR Crew based at CSTM, Pune, IGP, BSL and BSR are getting training on these locos nowadays!
Is special training required for operating WCAMs? Just curious. Even they are conventional locos only :). Why can't an LP who knows how to drive a WAP4 operate a WCAM loco straight away? :D
Am I missing something?
In case of 3-phase locos, an LP who knows how to operate a loco, say WAP7, can easily drive a WAP5 and WAG9/9H too, as they're very similar with regards to operation. Their control panels are almost the same. However, differences lie in the internal machinery and components.

WCAMx Locos, as we all know, are duel voltage DC/AC Type Locomotives. They can run under 1500 V DC Traction as well as 25 KV AC Traction. One Panto is to be used in DC Mode and Second Panto is to be used in AC Mode. The internal control panel, operations, notches, dash board (or similar relevant details) of WCAM2/2P/3 / WCAG1 locos is different than that of WAMx/WAPx Locos (single phase AC locos). Hence, as per rules, WCAMx locos are technically different than that of WAMx/WAPx locos and drivers will need formal training on the same before they can drive these locos.

When we travel by flight, a layman cannot tell Airbus and Boeing planes apart. They appear the same to us. But a Being 737 certified pilot cannot fly even another Boeing model, leave apart the Airbus planes. Similar technicalities are there in case of locos
