Many of the SG AC coaches also work on 415V 3 phase supply ( generated by the alternator on the bogie) that is rectified for running the AC. The problem with running SG coaches with HOG is that the supply from the HOG loco is at 750v, that has to be stepped down to 415V, which requires a step-down transformer, present in the power car. The lack of such a transformer in SG coaches, means that they cannot be used with a HOG loco.
