With development in Airports and Airlines taxing only the AC segment can hit Railways hard as passengers will not wait to switch.
Besides the one eating the most subsidy should be made to pay more, which happens to be the Daily commuters enjoying Rs 0.04-0.05 per km of their travel.

AC classes are the only one which give profit to the railways and they are heck bent on losing those people. IR can't grow with this socialist mindset. If they need money, just increase fares across all classes; no more of this stuff. Increase the fares of SL and GEN classes[this class can't migrate to airplanes so no chances of losing pax] and then invest that money to improve and speed up projects[and provide services].
Daily customers hardly pay a dime for the services they take. The suburban services are loss making eitherways and considering the volume of pax in that sector, even hiking prices by 10%[they should it ASAP; they need the money to make their service run plus it's not like those people have an option either] should Railways a lot of good.
There are thousands of PNR with fares of rs. 0 from rajdhani 1a to all the classes. The burden is faced by upper middle class. We dont tRavel in 3a for luxury. Its because sleeper is not worth travelling due to unauthorized passengers rush. If we wanted luxury we would have gone for 2a/1a. For upliftment of farmers, people who can afford with difficulty are being taxed. And god know's, what is this tax for and how is it related to railway travel
