Have a query for the members. Railways have now started the process of converting lots of trains to LHB. In such cases, what is the usual protocol followed for the erstwhile ICF coaches of those trains?
Do they look at conversion of some of them to Utkrisht rakes ? Are they supposed to be moved back to HQ or can they be left to the discretion of respective zones/divisions to utilise them as specials? Many trains are short of 1-2 SL coaches, 3AC coaches etc hence why cannot such ICF caches be utilised for those purposes if required rakes are available ?

They are used in replacing old coaches in existing trains, and running special trains. Also serve as spares for existing trains whose frequency has increased etc.
Coach increase in many trains does not happen owing to limitations of platform length, pit line capacity etc.

I think based on coach ageing factor they are retaining or transferring to other zones to introduce new or special trains.
The replaced ICF coaches have several uses based on their conditions...
1. Some get upgradation based on Utkrist scheme. This coaches are then mostly given to trains with slip detachments on route as such trains aren't given LHB coaches yet. Detachment of an slip LHb service at intermediate can be an issue hence Icf coaches are still used in those services.
2. Mostly the Icf coaches are given so as to run passenger services as passenger services often use much more older rakes. Obviously if the coaches are past their overhaul dates then...

I often see some freight trains whish are converted from regular passenger train. Some thing like blue layered. Is this same as HCP? Few trains have HCP attached to it.
