I had recently travelled from Shegaon to Nagpur and was waiting for my train Sevagaram Express. Meanwhile I was tracking the train and found that CSTM-HWH Durant overtook sevagram some station. Obviously Duronto with great speed crossed SEG with WAP4. And within 10 mins Sevagram came with WAP7. That means a WAP4 hauled train overtakes a WAP7 train.
Then why give trains like Sevagram WAP7. Do you know any other situations where trains with WAP/WDM/p overtakes a higher capacity loco like WAP 5/7?

Yes I've similar experience where WDM-2A hauled 15657 had once overtaken WDP-4B hauled 15484. & WAP-4/7 doesnt matter..its purely based on availability...if a shed has WAP7 then only WAP7 can be allotted.For eg,HWH,SDAH Raj & SDAH Duronto all have very few halts....Their commercial halts are also like technical halts only...so going by the logic they should have WAP-4.....but they're given WAP-7..so its a wastage of WAP-7....Whereas trains which halt at regular interval like Mahananda Exp deserves WAP7..but still given WAP-4....Everything depends on Section Controller....If at all,technically there is a difference b/w their speed/acceleration,the Controllers are technically not so equipped to calculate the difference..They operate each & every train with pre-assumption of their priority...If Kalka Mail(HWH WAP-7)comes in path of RNC Rajdhani(MGS WAP-4),then Rajdhani will obviously overtake Mail doesnt depend which loco it has got.

You are talking generally, so, you are right.
But, many things are there that matter.
For CSTM-Howrah trains.... Santragachi (Howrah) SER is not prepared for 3phase (WAP-7 and WAP-5) maintainence.
precise reason is that Sevagram is 24 coaches and WAP-7 that hauls it also belongs to Nagpur shed Ajni. Hence, Sevagram gets a WAP-7 and also Nagpur Duronto gets WAP-7.

Like Ajni shed WAP-7 hauls trains that start from Nagpur towards Pune, New Delhi and Mumbai.
This Duronto serves Mumbai and Howrah people and takes just technical halt at Nagpur
While Bilaspur Rajdhani halts at Nagpur and allows passengers to board and deboard and also, despite being of NR zone, its after all a rajdhani, hence, it gets CR AJNI WAP-7.
Again, Chhattisgarh Express being long train like sevagram, it gets AJNI WAP-7
Once, Kalyan shed gets WAP-7, then may be Howrah duronto might be given Kalyan WAP-7 but Santragachi ELS shud be prepared for 3phase maintainance
