This train has been abruptly cancelled from 20-August till almost 19-September. There has been absolutely no notification from SWR on the same.
Its peak Onam season starting 1st week of Sep and its a big loss for passengers travelling to Kerala . Surprisingly YPR-Kannur is running on all days and it follows same path till PGT. Not sure if this has got anything to do with YPR station modification ?

Might be some Redevelopment works at Yesvantpur. 17310/09 Vasco-da-gama - Yesvantpur - Vasco-da-gama will Terminate/Originate from SMVT Bengaluru for a month during that period.

Earlier it is the direct train to Varanasi but later during Lalu's time as a RM, this train was forcibly extended to Chhapra in 2008 and many South Indians were protested against this. I saw often this train many spiritual tour operators using this train usually above 50-60 ages for visiting Prayagraj Varanasi for doing Pind Daan, Pitru/Shraddha Karma etc also lots of South people visit this above places. Better SR can run another train to Varanasi via BPQ G NIR JBP route for shortest route if slot is not available and there is not even a daily train to Varanasi to Chennai since ages. Travelling in Sanghamitra/Bagmati/other weekly trains towards Bihar and changing at DDU is quite riskier as from an perspective of South Indian spiritual traveller. My family members (my Dad, Grandmother, my Aunt) etc travelled...

Deserving stations should get there needs done.I feel pity on big stations and city like Varanasi whose almost many trains got extended recent example BSBS NDLS superfast 2 days currently and Kamayani.There is a sheer neglection by zones and whole Varanasi is divided in these two neglecting zones NR/NER.Varanasi should gets it needs done especially towards Bengaluru /Chennai and surat.
Oh, the plan is simple. Make the route so pathetic that even other zones hesitate to use your route.
An almost straight route through the plains of Northern India, that's been restricted to 100 kmph. And thanks to the DFC like treatment by NR/MB, trains keep stopping every few minutes. And even if your train acheives that ridiculous MPS, it feels like it's going to be your last journey.

Patna Indore and Patna Kota bhi originally Lucknow - Indore aur Lucknow - Mathura thi.
SR should look and try to make this daily. If vivek can become daily then there is no reason to make GK cant become daily. if done sangamitra load can be reduced from chennai region to certain extend. As u said it can be via G NIR to reduce distance and time. Chennai to Varanasi a dedicated train is needed. this will suit that need perfectly.
They had made Vivek daily by first cancelling and short terminating Brahmaputra mail upto Kamakhya. Earlier Vivek ran via Asansol now via Dankuni. Later RB directed to change some train slots. Just like they can also increase frequency of GK (5 days via Gondia route and 2 days via normal route). I think this train should be extended upto Tiruchirapalli as well then only the "Ganga Kaveri" name will be suited. Can be run via Main line and Egmore as well for 5 days if SR agreed to increase frequency.
NR Delhi Division should start a dedicated new train service between Hazrat Nizamuddin & Belagavi....
