Mangalore Mail shares its RSA with Chennai bound West Coast Express. Diesel loco which hauls WC till SRR will take care of MAQ Mail from SRR. On that particular day, West coast express was running late by 4 hours. West Coast express had stopped for almost 2 hours in both Payyanur and Kannapuram stations. This was done to lift the derailed loco of Kannur - ALLP executive express. Even though loco went of the track in shunting line, the cranes which came from SRR and ED was occupying main lines. Kozhikode station = My Breakfast station.
Being a frequent traveler in One Mail, right from the age of 3 between PGT and PAZ; CLT station was always a special station. Reason is, its samoosa, vada, tea time. As the train reaches the station, dad would have already collected, what and all we need (we usually take vadas and samoosa), and then he will get it for us. During those days, foods were tasty. As the years passed by, once in month travel reduced to once in 2 month, then only vacation time, then slowly once in year. But after shifting from PGT to PAZ, those days are back. To add to your thoughts, Calicut station is also one of my favourite Station beside Palghat Jn as I did my schooling at Calicut before settling at Palghat. I have association with Calicut for more than 13 years. During my childhood, my Train travel used to happen between Calicut and Pattambi, my fathers ancestral home. During Holidays, we used to board the then 510 Cannanore Coimbatore Fast Passenger which had high priority at par with express trains during those days (i.e. late 80s till the late 90's).It used to skip kallayi and thirunavaya stations at that time also had few unreserved chair car coaches. The return journey was on the old 2626A Link Mangala express (PGT-MAQ) from Pattambi to Calicut which reached PTB around 10.30 am. We used to board any reserved coach and my father used to pay the difference of fare to the TTE. The train used to...
