Inflation of Project cost on one hand is financially killing IR and poor execution of projects qualitatively as well as quantitatively on the other hand is severly jeopardising the safety, operation & maintenance of IR. Cost per KM of new line/ guage conversion/ electrification etc appears to be increasing much faster than the rate of inflation.
even though the standards of materials used are pretty much the same; same tensioning in wires, same weight sleepers etc
BG track standard is clipped at 160kmph design speed since decades. If IR construct tracks for much higher axle load & higher permissible speed with stronger foundations, heavier rails, sturdier sleepers, better signalling etc, then steep cost escalation is justified.
even tensioning in OHE is based on 160 MPS
