Flooded Kagina cuts off traffic from Kalaburagi to Chitapur via Dandoti
The season’s widespread and heaviest rainfall disrupted normal life in most parts of Kalaburagi district with flooded streams and nalas cutting off communication to many villages on Thursday.
Particularly, floods in the Kagina cut off the road communication between Kalaburagi and Hyderabad via Sedam with the river flowing over a bridge near Malkhed near Sedam town in the district.

flooded Kagina also cut off vehicular traffic from Kalaburagi to Chitapur via Dandoti for more than 12 hours due to floodwaters flowing over a low-level bridge. Traffic on Kalaburagi-Hyderabad Road via Sedam was cut off for more than 12 hours, due to floods in the Kagina near Malkhed.
Deputy Commissioner Vipul Bansal visited the spot and also some of the rain-hit areas in Sedam taluk.
Floodwaters also entered the famous Brindavan of Jayatirtha Teekacharya at the Uttaradi Mutt on the banks of the Kagina in Malkhed.
According to the latest reports, floodwaters have started receding. Reports reaching the district headquarters said that all major rivers, including the Kagina, the Bennethora, the Bhima and the Amarja, had received good inflow due to heavy rain.
One of the heaviest this season, rain started lashing the district at 5 p.m. on Wednesday and continued to lash the entire night leaving many localities in Chitapur town, Kalaburagi city and other places in the district water-logged. Floodwaters entered houses in many low-lying areas. At least 20 old and dilapidated houses collapsed fully or partially in Kodla, Betagera, Adiki and Rajola K villages in Sedam taluk.
Communication between Khanadal and Panegoan villages in Kalaburagi taluk was disconnected for more than 20 hours due to floods in a stream. Reports reaching here said that flash floods in several streams and nalas in Afzalpur, Aland, Chitapur, Sedam taluks resulted in rainwater entering agricultural fields. Water-logging was reported from such low-lying fields. There were also reports of standing crops submerging in rainwater in several villages in the low-lying areas.
Heavy rain also left water stagnating on one of the railway tracks at Sedam Railway Station. Although no trains were cancelled due to water-logging, trains were operated on the other two lines in the railway station. Water-logging has been reported from different parts of Kalaburagi city due to clogging of the drainage system in the city.
As per official information available, Kalaburagi district recorded an average 6.1 cm rainfall and all the taluks received good rainfall for the first time in the season. While Sedam recorded the highest rainfall of 9.7 cm rainfall, Chitapur recorded a rainfall of 9.6 cm. It was followed by 8 cm rainfall in Kalaburagi taluk, 5.1 cm rainfall in Chincholi, 4.1 cm rainfall in Aland, and 3.4 cm rainfall in Jewargi.
